Your First Engagement
This guide walks you through creating your first audit engagement from start to finish — from planning through fieldwork to reporting.
Step 1 — Create the Engagement
- Navigate to Engagements → + New Engagement
- Enter the engagement details:
- Title: e.g., "IT General Controls Review — Q1 2027"
- Objective: What the audit aims to achieve
- Scope: What is included/excluded
- Lead Auditor: Assign yourself or a team member
- Business Unit: Select the unit being audited
- Start/End Date: Set the timeline
- Click Create
Step 2 — Set Up Phases
Your engagement comes with default phases: Planning, Fieldwork, Reporting, Wrap-Up.
- Review the phase milestones
- Adjust planned dates if needed
- Add additional milestones as required
Step 3 — Add Risks and Controls
- Go to the Risks tab
- Click + Add Risk (or import from the Risk Library)
- For each risk, add the relevant Controls
- Mark key controls for priority testing
Step 4 — Create Workpapers
- Go to the Workpapers tab
- Click + New Workpaper
- Give it a title (e.g., "WP-001: Access Control Testing")
- Add test procedures for each control to test
- Start documenting your work
Step 5 — Execute Testing
For each test procedure:
- Perform the test (inquiry, observation, inspection, re-performance)
- Document the results in
result_summary - Upload supporting evidence
- Note any exceptions found
Step 6 — Document Findings
If you identify exceptions:
- Click + New Finding from the workpaper
- Complete the CCCER framework (Condition, Criteria, Cause, Effect, Recommendation)
- Set the severity level
- Submit for management response
Step 7 — Create the Report
- Go to Reports → + New Report
- Select a template or start blank
- Use AI Draft to generate the executive summary
- Review and finalize all sections
- Submit for CAE review
Step 8 — Close the Engagement
- Ensure all findings are finalized
- All workpapers are reviewed and signed off
- The report is approved
- Mark the engagement as CLOSED
